Steps of Salesforce And Slack Integration


Below are the steps you must follow to integrate Salesforce with Slack (Remember it's essential to have a Slack and Salesforce account to integrate Salesforce with Slack):


Step#1: Firstly, open your Slack account and create a workspace. After managing the workspace in your account, you will see two default channels: General and Random.


Step#2: Now, you have to create a new channel by following the steps below:

  1. Click the “Add Channel” option displayed in the pic below:

  2. Select the “Create a Channel” option. Now, enter your details in areas and click the “Create” option.

  3. Add the individuals you want.


Step#3: After that, move to your Salesforce account. Select the “Setup” option and install Slack from your Salesforce environment’s “AppExchange.” To install Slack from Salesforce’s AppExchange, follow the given steps:

  1. Go to AppExchange and search for Slack. Next, install it by selecting the “Get it now” button.

  2. Grant the necessary permissions.


Step#4: Now, install Salesforce in the Slack account by following the steps below:

  1. Open Slack. Go to the inbox page, select the “Setting & Administration” option, and click “Manage Apps.”

  2. After selecting the manage apps option, search for Salesforce and install by clicking "Add to Slack."

  3. Scroll down, and you will see three steps, click the first "Add to Slack" again.

  4. Then provide the necessary permissions so that it will bring you to a particular page.

  5. Now go back to your inbox page and check if Salesforce has successfully added to your Slack account.

Step#5: Return to your Salesforce platform to grant users permissions by selecting the "Quick Find box" to search for permission settings. In the list of permission settings, look for Slack and choose Slack standard user.


Step#6: After opening Slack Standard user, click "Manage Assignments → Add Assignments" and choose the users you like to give permission. Now, click "Assign" and select the "Done" option.


Step#7: Here, to configure your team's data viewing and sharing settings, access the Slack setup app. Start by clicking the “App Launcher” and selecting “Slack setup.” Then, click the “Get Started” button.


Step#8: Next, click on the "Authorize" button to establish a connection between Slack and Salesforce. Once you have done this, the relationship will establish successfully. Click "Finish" to complete the process. Afterward, you will be redirected to the page shown below:

Step#10: Enabling a custom object is crucial as it allows for the seamless integration of a specialized entity. For instance, let's consider the custom object "Applicant," which we want to utilize in Slack. So, follow the below steps to enable a custom object:

  1. Click on "Add Custom Object."

  2. Choose the desired object and select the fields to be displayed. Then click on "Add."

  3. Proceed to activate the object, which you can do through two options:

  • Automatic Activation.

  • Manual Activation.

After completing the task, select Finish and move on to the subsequent step.


Step#11: To initiate personalized notifications proceed with the 'Continue' option. It redirects you to the alert configuration page. From there, select 'New Alert' to create a custom alert.


Step#12: Fill in the necessary details, such as Alert Name, Alert Type, and Object, in the respective fields. Then, click on 'Next.' Now, you can configure the alert according to your preferences and the specific situation for which you want to receive notifications.


This way, you can add multiple alerts for different objects as needed.


Step#13: Configure your org by clicking "Continue." Choose the layouts where you like to add actions, then click "Add Action To Layouts" and the "Next" option. Now add the "Slack Message Viewer" feature to the page layouts. It will help you view Slack messages in your Salesforce account.


Next, pick the preferred pages and click "Add a component to pages." Once the component has been added successfully, click the "Finish" button.


Step#14: Now, set up Automation Configuration by clicking "Continue.” Then, click on "New Message Destination."


Step#15: Lastly, fill in all the necessary fields, such as Message Destination Name, Slack channel or person, and Slack workspace. Now save your changes and click “Finish.”
